ACCESS FROM ATHENS BUSES FROM ATHENS AIRPORT to VOLOS (at own cost) The initial programme for the BUSES FROM THE AIRPORT is the following: I. Tuesday 26/11, one bus for 20 people around 17:30 II. Wednesday 27/11, one bus for 20 people around 15:30 III. Saturday 30/11 one bus for 20 people around 8:30 The final programme is expected to be determined at the end of October. The special price is 35 euros per route. For a bus to be actually routed at this special price, a minimum number of 20 people is necessary to have declared that they are interested.
Access to Volos from Athens is accomplished: By car through the Athens-Thessaloniki National Highway by selecting the exit of Mikrothives (km 290). The distance from the centre of Athens is 319 km and the journey by car takes about 3 hours and 30 minutes (depending on the traffic in Athens) By bus. The journey time varies from 4h (express bus) to 4h20min. Access from Athens International Airport El Venizelos (ATH) to the ‘Liosion’ Bus Terminal (KTEL Liosion) and vice versa is accomplished: By taxi. The journey time by car to the Liosion Bus Terminal takes about 40 minutes, depending on the traffic. By a special transportation bus. The journey time by bus from the Airport to the Liosion Bus Terminal takes about 1 hour, depending on the traffic. There is an express bus X93, linking the Airport with the Bus Terminal. The bus stop where you descend during the route Airport-Bus Terminal is the 7th stop (‘STATHMOS IPERASTIKON LEOF’). You can find information about the bus route timetable and route stops here By suburban railway and metro. You get out at the Neratziotissa Station and then take the M1 metro line (direction Piraeus) to Kato Patissia. The bus station is 10-12 minutes on foot. The journey takes approximately 1 hour and the ticket costs 10 euros. Attention! The metro Airport Station is about 8-10 min. away on foot from the Arrivals. Access from Athens International Airport El Venizelos (ATH) to the Railway Station Stathmos Larisis and vice versa is accomplished: By taxi. The journey time to the Railway Station takes about 50min depending on the traffic By metro. The journey takes approximately 1 hour and the ticket costs 10 euros. For the route Airport – Railway Station, you will take the blue line M3 from the Airport Station and after 15 stops at ‘Syntagma’ station you transfer to the red line M2 (direction Anthoupoli) and you descend to the station ‘Stathmos Larisis’. For the route Railway Station – Airport, you will take the red line M2 (direction Elliniko) and after 4 stops at ‘Syntagma’ station you transfer to the blue line M3 (direction Airport) where after 15 stops you arrive at the destination. Attention! The metro Airport Station (same as the suburban railway station) is about 8-10 min. away on foot from the Arrivals . One alternative (31 minutes but with only 2 routes per hour) is to take the suburban railway and get out at SKA Station and then walk 5 minutes to the train station SKA. Attention! Waking from the suburban railway station to the train station is not straight forward and you better ask someone how to proceed. Access to Volos from Thessaloniki is accomplished: By car through the Athens-Thessaloniki National Highway by selecting the exit of Velestino (km 310). The distance from Thessaloniki is 207 km and the journey by car takes about 2 hours and 10 minutes. By bus. The journey time takes either 2h10min (express bus) or 2h20min. Access from Thessaloniki Airport (SKG) to the Railway Station and the Intercity Bus Terminal is accomplished: By taxi. The journey time to the Railway Station takes about 40 minutes and to the Bus Terminal about 50 minutes – both depending on the traffic. By urban transportation bus. The cost of the ticket is €2,00 for a single journey. The journey time from the Airport to the Bus Terminal takes about 1 hour, depending on the traffic. Route Airport – Railway Station – Intercity Bus Terminal: There is an express bus O1X and two night lines 1N, O1N linking the Airport directly with the Intercity Bus Terminal. These buses also make a stop at the Railway Station (stop ‘Neos Sidirodromikos Stathmos’). Route Intercity Bus Terminal – Railway Station – Airport: Same buses, express 01X and night lines 1N, 01N serve this route. Attention! In order to take express bus 01X from the Railway Station to the Airport, you have to redirect to the bus stop ‘Zografou’. It is also the venue where the Conference’s Gala Dinner will take place on Thursday, November 28th. It is located 10’ away from the local, as well as the national, bus start, 5’ away from the train station, and 10’ from the port from where ships leave to Skiathos, Skopelos and Alonissos.
